Excellent post, Neil - not least for pointing to another excellent post and presentation: thanks a lot. A mantra we coined at my last agency, and that remains really important now is "numbers and stories".

It came out of earned media work - SEO, social and content - when we saw how useful it was to have data analysts (borrowed from paid search teams) sitting next to editors and social media people. There was a real synthesis that took place and insights became things that could be acted on immediately to steer creative and even clients' business decisions.

Really useful to see the perspective from the bought media side of things here. Some brilliant thinking and insights...
