Great post. And something that is incredibly pertinent at the moment - I seem to be spending most of my time at the moment planning for next year.

I think it's an interesting idea - it's not the planning per se that is at fault, it's the way people treat the plans and planning process. We spend a lot of time trying to get things perfectly right, which is an impossible task seeing as we never have enough data, or the right data.

It's still important to have some idea of where you're going and what you want to achieve, but the lesson should be that an agile approach to business and planning works best.

(also, small point, but pretty sure deductive reasoning should never be based on past evidence - that's what separates it from inductive reasoning)
