We def need more wisdom and understanding from all this new media/data explosion, even more than we need more unimaginably large numbers (whose job is it to invent new prefixes for 'bytes'?)

Similar article in this weeks New Yorker (can't find it online) about how the deluge of data coming from the US's (largely private, thus largely and eldlessly duplicated) homeland security industry is leading to worse, not better, decision making...

Great post. Metadata and how it's implemented and approached is going to become the key feature of how we deal with the firehose. Right now we aren't doing it so well.
