Nice.

There's an interesting analogy to be found in Starfish vs Spider which talks of the myth of the "Grandmother Cell" - check it out.

In Outliers, Gladwell talks of the Univ of Washington as key to IT industry innovation - how it wasn't just a Gates Eureka moment but a combination of social factors that eventually accumulated towards innovation.

Also, on the Eureka myth riff worth thinking of Kim Il Sung from the DPRK who, in response to his nation's need for decent food, invented "Kimburgers" - a burger between two bun halves. Genius...

Thanks for this.

Edison's "failures" are my typical argument for The Venus Project.

Quite often as soon as people hear of The Venus Project they think that since it sounds similar to communism (an idea that has failed in the past) it will never work.

My view is that we have to continue to do as many social experiments as possible, until we come up with a solution that works better than what we have today.
