Times are tough. The recruitment market is tough. But here are 5 reasons why employing people who blog is more important than ever:
- They start fires. Blogging forces you to come up with new stuff. To be interesting.
- They understand the value of connection. And are connected. To other interesting people.
- They get digital. They appreciate the nuances and potential of social media. And how it works. Because they're doing it, not looking at it.
- They network like crazy.
- But most of all, because they're bothered. They have an opinion. They're not afraid to express it. They're passionate about their subject. And real passion is rare indeed.

Amen ;-)

SImple. Efiicient. To the point. That's also how I got my current job, really. (Networking, blogging, value of connections, bothered - make into a circle and we'll have a nice slide there)

Is the writing on the wall for you?

Love the point of view. Timely and very logical. Well said!

You realise if you leave your job in the next 6 months, this is going to look like a blatant 'recruitment ad'.
I'm not criticising, I just wish I'd thought of it ... ha!
For me blogging is a 'brain CV' ... we get all so wrapped up in life, it's quite often the only time we get to think and express things of real value. Well, not that I write with value - but hopefully you know what I mean!

Excellent excellent stuff. Even written in a "top five" RNB style :)
Actually I completely agree with the commenters too and have said exactly the same thing myself - how I concluded my post on April 30th:
"Employers, isn't a current, comprehensive, searchable evolving blog a much better guide to a candidate than a couple of typed pages anyway?"
Posted by: Rana | December 13, 2008 at 05:13 PM
clearly I agree with that 100%!

While I (obviously) agree, what would you say to the argument that Bloggers are a bunch of folk who like the sound of their own voices too much for their own good?
Posted by: amelia | December 14, 2008 at 06:09 PM
Thanks Graeme, Rana.
Amelia - I think bloggers are egotists like everyone else (ego is a fundmental driver in social media) but for me it's a very productive and constructive form of egotism, don't you think? :)

I love the idea of blog and dropping my precious little thoughts into the void. You don't have to have too much ego to share. We are all precious little snowflakes.
